The Soca valley is very popular place to spend your free time and enjoy the adrenaline activities this part of Slovenia is known for. But choose them carefully – you might not have enough time to try them all! Also, the options depend on your starting point, which is connected to the accommodation, so make a good plan in advance.
For Soca rafting, Bovec is the best starting point, but not the only one. There are many different and unique experiences to be had with Soca rafting – Bovec offers several, from white-water rafting on the rapids to peaceful tours that enable you to enjoy the nature. But great tours can be organized on different parts of the river as well, and the valley itself is not as big to not allow efficient transportation from other starting point. That’s why there are many options for Soca rafting, Bovec, Kobarid, and Tolmin all offer great options and also convenient transport to the best entry points.
You might want to be a bit more careful with selecting the starting point for some other activities on or around the Soca river. Kanyoning is one example – this activity has a bit stricter demands and can’t be done just everywhere. In fact, even on the Soca river, kanyoning is not particularly enjoyable, that’s why the activity is done in narrow canyons of the streams that flow from the mountains. The valley is full of those, but the most prominent concentration (combined with the most developed offer of guided tours) is to be found around Bovec, which is once again the ideal place for doing any activities on the Soca river. Kanyoning includes some transport and might be a bit longer than a rafting tour, but it’s worth the extra investment!
